Communities in Schools
Communities in Schools is a national program that connects students and their families to local resoureces. Cornelius Bell is the LMCMS coordinator. To find out more about the program, please see the attached letter.
The LMCMS Parents group is a way for the Parents of Liberty Memorial Central Middle School students to stay connected. The group meets monthly. For more information, go the the Parents Group webpage.
If your child would like to participate in sports during the 2013-2014 year, he/she will need several KSHSAA forms of file. To download the forms, please go to the KSHSAA website.

The 3rd STOMPEDE will be held the afternoon of March 28! Students who have C's and above in all classes 3rd quarter, no more than 10 days absent for the year, no more than 3 minors and no majors for 3rd quarter are will be participating in an afternoon of socializing, open gym, crafts, video games and more!
Boys Tennis begins Monday, March 10. Meet in Room 401 at 3:15. All paperwork needs to be in the office by Monday, March 24
Chess Club wll meet in Room 209, Mrs. Binns room, afterschool Tuesdays.
Agenda Cover Design Contest
WHO: CURRENT 6th & 7th Graders
WHAT: AGENDA COVER DESIGN CONTEST
Please consider the following when thinking about your design…..
1. Designs must include the school name (or LMCMS), the year…2013-2014, and the word Mustangs may also be used.
2. You may use up to four colors.
3. Designs may be hand drawn, or done on a computer, but no plagiarizing. Designs must be original artwork.
4. Use plain white copy paper (8 ½ x 11) for all designs. Please do not use lined paper.
5. Put your full name and grade level on the back of your design.
6. The Agenda Cover submissions will be accepted March 24, 2013 thru April 4, 2013 by 3:25pm. Turn them in to the office or Mrs. Rutland.
THERE WILL BE TWO WINNERS. ONE FOR 1st Semester and one for 2nd Semester.

Special Congratulations to Isabella Fletcher for receiving Best Speech award in World Council II and Thomas White for receiving 2nd best overall Middle School Delegate.
LMCMS Rocks Regional History Day
15 LMCMS students took 6 projects to District One History Day and all came home with medals!
Winning 3rd place in the Junior Group Website category with their project The History of the WPA were Lydia Regier and Liliana Grotewohl. In Junior Group Exhibits, Jodi Gore and Zoe Wohlford took 2nd place with Emanuel and Marcet Haldeman Julius ; ‘A Nickel for Knowledge’ , and Cora Kelsey, Katy Meston Ward, and Zoe Bitters got 1st place with their entry, The Rise and Fall of Treece and the
Tri-State Mining District. In the Junior Group Documentary category, Zuzu Melchor and Helena All won 1st place with their documentary, A Tragedy of the Commons: The Ogallala Aquifer, and Bella Crawford Parker, Stella Tunge, and Hailey Gotto won 2nd place with their entry The Birmingham Children’s March: Children taking Responsibility in the National Fight for Civil Rights. Winning 1st place in the Junior Performance Category with John, Will & John: Taking Responsibility for the Rights of their People were Li Gordon Washington, Rowan Laufer and Will Davis.
Congratulations to all of these students who will be moving on to State History Day which will be held April 19th at Washburn University in Topeka!

This Thursday we are making signs to protest the recent House bill in the KS legislature, putting together a panel for Gay Pride week, and researching famous people who are Gay, Lesbian, or Transgender. Free State Cheer and Dance Try Outs
Dates are April 14-17.~ The Free State try out packets will be distributed on April 1st.~ Coach Hofer will bring them by all of the middle schools.~ Tryouts and informational meetings will occur in April and will be announced once scheduled.
Run Lawrence -- Are you a sixth grader interested in running? runLawrence is hosting a sixth grade running program from March 11-April 24. More information is available in the office.

Writing ClubThere is a new club in town – writing club. You can read, write and illustrate stories, poems or articles. 6th, 7th and 8th grade students are welcome. The club will be held Mondays from 3:15-4:15 in Ms. Stafford’s room (room 304). Our first meeting is Monday, January 10. Snacks will be provided.
Science Olympiad, competitive science enrichment activities, will be meeting on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons in Mrs. Hurt’s room (room 303). Students meet and work on their chosen events 3:25 – 5 each Tuesday and Thursday through February 21. The regional competition is on February 22nd in Wichita. Eight graders that successfully participate will receive portfolio points for the third quarter and possibly fourth quarter if they qualify for the State competition.

Dollars for Scholars
Hy-Vee will pay us $1.00 for every $150 collected. Mrs. Prosser's Advisory class will collect the receipts and prepare them in rolls to take to Hy-Vee. Tell your parents, aunts, uncles, anyone who shops at Hy-vee to save the receipt and give it to you. Yor give them to your advisory teacher.

Who: All LMCMS students who love math and want more!
What: A club for the math enthusiast! Students will participate in variety of fun and challenging math activities and learn creative problem solving and higher level thinking skills with friends!
When: Thursdays from 3:15-4:15

Do you need extra help with homework or a quiet place to work or study after school?
Meets in the library Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays from 3:15 - 4:15 p.m.

Snack is served
Students wanting to participate must be in the library by 3:25 p.m. They will sign in and be able to sign out and leave whenever they have completed their work. Once they have left for the day, they will not be able to come back in the library.
